Rough Week

The week is only half over and we had been to the emergency room twice. On Monday, Greg was determined to finish the basement and got in a hurry. After cutting his last piece of molding he reached down to turn the off the table saw and the saw jumped up and bit his thumb. Or maybe he stuck his thumb in the saw. We rushed off to the emergency room and found he had cut off the end of the bone and chopped the thumb pretty good on the end. The stitched up what they could and sent us home. The pain medicine is beating him up more than the thumb pain. He went off the pain meds, so hopefully he will start feeling better. This afternoon, Charley was walking down the driveway and the dog tripped him and he landed face first on a skate board. So we headed to the emergency room again and he now has 6 beautiful stitches right in the middle of his forehead. They actually wrapped him up in a sheet, then strapped him to a board injected shots in the wound and stitched him and he didn't shed a tear. What a brave guy! After his bath tonight, he said, "It's okay Mama, at least I got a reward." He is very excited to have the suringe from the hospital that they used to clean it out. Greg needs to get to the hospital tomorrow to have his wound checked, and the dog needs her stitches out on Friday. Then next week, both Greg and Charley need to go back to the hospital to have them removed. Wow! I could think of better ways to have fun. I hope your week is better than ours.

Ol' Edna

So, this beast is Edna. Yes, Greg has given his truck a name. Why it is a girl and one named Edna is beyond me. I refuse to drive it, because I have serious doubts that I will make it back home. Edna has a fantastic security system in it as well...no one can figure out how to start it, even if the keys were left in it. You have to give the keys a 1/2 turn (broken ignition), flick the switch up and push the big black button(on the right in the picture). NICE. He insists that this thing is moving to Oregon and he is going to drive it there, fly back and move the rest of us. I give up arguing about it. I lost. So I will send him with a 3 day supply of food, lots of clothes and a bike to get him to the nearest service station when she brakes down, and a big fat I told you so from me. Though I will have to admit, she looks better without the big ugly camper on the back, which made it completely impossible to see out of.

Picking battles

So I am not that into fashion. My son's obviously are not either. But really, do we have to go shopping like this? Sweats that don't match, tucked into cowboy boots. Yep, we shopped like this. So if you see my kids dressed like a bum, you now know that it is because I am tired of fighting them over clothing. Go ahead wear your power ranger costume while I grocery shop. Add some cowboy boots and a firefighter hat if you'd like.

Poor Mutt

Poor Nani was spayed yesterday and now she must sport a lamp shade for 10 days! Isn't she a sorry site? She keeps getting hung up on everything.

Go Daddy Go!

So he is at it again...Greg raced the Frozen Hog last weekend and is very proud of his 2nd place finish. There was no way I was going to leave the warm bed early in the morning to cheer him on. But I am glad he had a great time freezing his butt off. Not my thing, but Greg just loves his bikes so much. He really does talk to them. He has 4 now. He actually parted with one and fixed it up for me. My idea of a ride involves a paved trail, or at least a groomed one and a bike trailer. Last I counted, our family of 4 has 9 bikes. Seriously, how many bikes can one man ride? Our next house better have a good size garage. If you are into the biking thing, check out Greg's team site...utahmountainbiking.com. There is a you tube clip for the frozen hog '09 and you can see Greg riding through the snow.

Lots of why's

Last night I was rocking Charley until he stopped coughing, and I couldn't get over how big he is. He is half the length of me and to think that this is how he started out. You can see why I am a psycho mother. I hover over him with every cough, wheeze and am constantly saying Charley don't run, even though I know it is good for him. I also check to see if he is breathing every night. I got this thought in my head....why do bad things happen to good people? Why do loved ones die too early, lose jobs, homes, marriages, get cancer? Why have we been unsuccessful at adoption? Why, why, why? I think back to the day my water broke with Charley. I was only 18 weeks along. The chances were slim to none. So I got to praying and guess what? It worked! The more I prayed, the calmer I stayed. I do not know how on earth I managed to sit in a hospital bed for 10 weeks with only a mini tv for company and not go crazy. I was in terrible pain, was greaving over an aunt who died while I was there and missing the funeral, and constantly hearing the cries of women next door. I pray for their babies. I thanked God every day for letting me sit in that bed, for growing a little larger and asked for one more day. I told the doctors I was going to sit there til I was 28 weeks along. They looked at me like I was a mental patient. I was 3 days shy of my goal. I was numb after he was born. I had no tears left to cry for him. He could only be visited for 1 hour a day and only touched gently so we didn't damage his skin. One couldn't have an experience like this and not believe in God. Impossible. Charley has changed our lifes! I think God allows people to go through trying times to test us, not to punish us. When times are tough, who do we ask for help? We have many family and friends going through such times right now and that is why I am writing this. Prayers do get answered, although some might not be in ways that we would expect or when we want them. I couldn't figure out why we still haven't adopted a child. We have had 3 homestudies done, 3 background checks, visited immigration offices, and completed moutains of paperwork and have paid money we will never see again. The room is ready and filled with clothes and toys. I really am a psycho. But now I see why. We are not only moving, but changing careers, and God says NOT YET. I know our time will come. Unfortunately patience is something I am not good at. Not a good trait when raising children, I know. Greg says "we really don't have to do this", but this need to adopt is way to strong to ignore. With millions of orphans out there, I have to help at least one. (Shhh don't tell Greg, but I would take two, he says without a doubt 3 is max) Okay enough rambling.

Marital advice

While driving home from errands yesterday, this is what I heard from the back seat. (Ronan) Charley, you have a new lady friend. Ha Ha Ha. (Charley) No I don't. (Ronan) Yes you do, its Maddy (lives next door). You are going to marry her. (Charley) NO WAY, I'm never getting married. (Ronan) You are going to have to do it some day. If you don't you will be a poor man. A poor man with no food to eat and no kids. Only the Mamas can have kids. You don't want to be poor do you? (Charley) No, I don't want to be poor, but I don't want to be married. (Ronan) Being married isen't that hard, you only have to do two things. #1. You have to be brave. #2. You have to kiss. Don't worry, some day you will like it. (Charley) Ewwww. Gross. Ronan is wise beyond his years.....woman make you rich!
