U.S.S. Missouri

Some big guns!
The thing still has the original wooden decks. Can you imagine how much time those poor sailors spent cleaning and treating them?

What's in here? We probably got to explore about 1/3 of the ship. I'm not sure why so much of it was closed off. We got to see the officer's living area and chow hall, but we couldn't see the tight living quarters for the enlisted ranks or their living areas.
This was the Control Room...I think. There was a guy posted in here making sure that no button pushing was going on...oh man. The boys were bummed. There were tons of buttons and switches, some said cool things like "FIRE". See Ronan? He is making sure the guy is still watching him. Darn buttons are irresistible. Speaking of buttons, since we live on the 15th floor, we ride up and down the elevator several times a day and there is one great big red button which is right in the boy's face everyday...will they be able to resist for 4 months?
The Arizona Memorial. Greg has been on this thing several times, but I have not. No kiddos allowed. I will just take his word on its coolness level. I do not like standing in line in the hot sun.

We took the boys to explore the Missouri which is parked in Pearl Harbor. I was thinking they were going to give us a military rate of $5.00 or maybe $10.00 at most. Nope it cost us a whopping $50.00 to see this thing! It was cool, but not $50.00 cool. The boys had a blast exploring 7 decks, going up and down the ladders, and going in door after door. Oh and there were lots of buttons to push and levers to pull and guns to pretend to shoot.

Pyramid rock beach

This was not my favorite beach...too many people and the waves were too big for me to be comfortable, but perfect for body boarding. Just noticing there are hardly any pictures of me...maybe for the best. Greg and the boys are wonderfully tan, but this skin of mine is still looking like an Irishwoman's.

This bird is called a White Rumped Shama. They are native to Malaysia and have the most beautiful songs. They can mimic other birds as well. I hear these birds all the time over here, especially when we are hiking. Thought you might want to hear one too!

The coughing kid is not ours!

A perfect breakfast

I got this wonderful breakfast from www.ohsheglows.com. Her site is filled with super healthy recipes, check her out.

Overnight Oats

1/3 cup regular oats
3/4 cup milk or almond milk
2 tbsp. chia seeds
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract

Mix them up in the evening and put them in the fridge for breakfast. In the morning, add 1/2 mashed banana, 1 heaping tbsp. peanut or almond butter and drizzle with honey or maple syrup. You could do any variation...adding berries, nuts, fruits. Stir and eat cold. Cold oatmeal sounds gross, but it is oh so good. It has a texture of tapioca pudding. The whole family loves them.

Check this out...a cookie with no sugar, no butter and no eggs. They were gone in 2 days.

Banana Oatmeal Chip Cookies

1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup oats
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp ground flax ( I didn't have this)
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup maple syrup (real stuff)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp oil
1/2 mashed banana
1/4 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup walnut

Mix up and bake at 350 for 14-16 minutes.

Again these are from her site.
